Prince Fielder agrees to a $214 Million deal with the Detroit Tigers

Prince1The Prince Fielder sweepstakes appears to be over as the Detroit Tigers send a bit of a shock wave through the AL Central with the reported acquisition of the NL All Star first basemen.  The day started off with the Nationals, Rangers and Mariners as the three top teams thought to be in the running for Fielder.

The Tigers offered Fielder a physical-pending 9 year deal worth $214 million.  If the Tigers can get this deal to go through, the worries that surrounded the offense after Victor Martinez was lost for the season, will be all but forgotten.  Even though the Tigers have an All Star and one of the best hitters in the game at first base in Miguel Cabrera, the addition of Fielder will be welcomed with open arms.  The most likely scenario would be the two power hitters alternating between first base and DH as neither one would really have the mobility at any other position in the infield.

Prince Fielder joins the team that is Daddy, Cecil, played for from 1990-1996.

White Sox, Indians and Royals fans can be heard saying in unison, “We now have no shot”.
