Pavlik Fight Announced

For those of you like me who wondered if Kelly Pavlik was going to fight anywhere else than Youngstown ever again, our question has been answered.  Sergio Martinez has signed on to fight The Ghost on April 17, 2010 in Atlantic City.  It will be a two location show on HBO with the other fight being Edison Miranda against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute.  Pavlik has not signed the fight contract yet because he is vacationing with his wife.  They are expected to sign once he returns this weekend.  Despite Pavlik being on vacation, trainer Jack Loew says they are ready.

“It’s a done deal as far as I’m concerned,” said Pavlik’s trainer, Jack Loew. “We’re preparing to fight.”

Top Rank head honcho Bob Arum is still undecided on when to hold a press conference for the event.  Some speculate that he will hold a press conference brunch the morning of the Paquiao vs. Clottey bout, Saturday March 13 in Arlington, Texas.  Some people in Pavlik’s corner are already looking ahead to what can be set up for their next bout.  It is widely known that Kelly Pavlik wants a piece of Germany’s Felix Sturm for the WBA middleweight belt and some say that he is willing to fight in Germany.  That’s a pretty big step for someone reluctant to leave the rustbelt.  I don’t blame his corner for trying to get a plan together because Kelly probably won’t be fighting much longer.  True, he is a young gun but he has had a lot of fights and took a lot of hits.  After a few more fights and title defenses I think he will hang them up.  He has made a better life for himself and his family so why shouldn’t he get to enjoy it…and remember it?
