There comes a point when you need to step back and realize that you are 53 years old and completely irrelevant to an EDM music festival. Especially at Ultra Music Festival, where it is safe to say that almost all of the people in attendance weren’t even born yet when her “Like a Virgin” first topped the charts in 1984.
But not for the attention whore that is Madonna. On Saturday night, the second of the three day festival, Madge was introducing Avicii and at one point during her mindless rhetoric, where she claimed she had been there for years in “spirit”, posed this question to the crown.
“How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?!”

To many, including myself, it seemed as though Madonna was asking the crowd if any of them were on MDMA, a pure form of Ectasy that is commonly found at music festivals such as Ultra. Madonna, with her MDNA shirt promoting her album that, SHOCKER, came out the day before, has since claimed that it was a big misunderstanding and she was referencing her friends new song. That friend is DJ Cedric Gervais who has a new single coming out called “Have You Seen Molly?”.
The whole problem I have with her defense is that Cedric Gervais didn’t perform at Ultra until Sunday evening, which would have been the next day. So how would anyone have known she was referencing another DJ when she is supposed to be introducing Avicii? Also, his song “Have You Seen Molly?” hasn’t even come out yet. Only a sample of the song is available on YouTube and it only has 70K or so hits, with many coming since TMZ linked it. In addition to that, she wasn’t even talking about Cedric Gervais and had absolutely no reason to reference anything of his. She claims that he is a good friend and that they “almost” worked together on her weak, uncelebrated and rather luke warm album, MDNA.
Cedric Gervais shouldn’t be let off the hook on this either. While his set was amazing from Ultra, it feels like he is just trying to save Madonna’s ass and get huge publicity at the same time. How can he honestly claim a song of his entitled “Have You Seen Molly” isn’t about Ectasy? With lyrics “Please help me find Molly” and “She makes me want to dance” I find it extremely hard to believe that this isn’t about the party drug. Actually I am semi-offended that they think we are stupid enough to believe the bullshit that is their story.
“Such a great message for the young music lovers at ultra. quite the f***n philanthropist. but hey, at least yer HIP AND TRENDY! F*****g cant smack my head hard enough right now.”
I really wish he would stick to his guns on this one. What she said is exactly what she meant. She was referencing drug use and promoting it to seem hip. The name of her new album is MDNA for God’s sake. How is everyone blind to the fact that this 53 year old woman was pandering to a younger crowd by promoting drug use? I can’t believe that Zimmerman has accepted her excuse. I believe that he is just tired of arguing and doesn’t feel the need to give her anymore attention, which if true, I totally get.
I would like to hear what Avicii has to say about the situation. He should be pissed that she either promoted drug use during his set or, as she says, promoted another DJ’s song before one of the biggest names in EDM was set to perform.
Either way she is irrelevant and unwelcomed at any EDM festival and, as her new album proves, falling off as an artist. The sooner she can realize that, the sooner they can remove the wheelchair ramps for her at EDM Festivals.
