The Black Keys > Arcade Fire

There were some serious upsets at last nights Grammy Awards. First we saw the Biebs miss out on Best New Artist to Esperanza Spalding (who?). The next underdog to come out on top was Arcade Fire coming out of no where to win Album of the Year for “Suburbs”. What might have been overlooked by everyone is the fact that even though Arcade Fire won the most coveted Grammy of the night, they lost out on two others.

The Black Keys, from Akron, Ohio, scooped up two Grammys. One for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals and another for Best Alternative Music Album. Anyone care to guess who came in second in both categories? So if we were to try to draw conclusions, we might say that even though people think that Arcade Fire has the best overall album, The Black Keys have them beat in their genre, and more specifically, as a band.

Of course that may be a stretch, but I have seen The Black Keys live and they deserve those Grammy’s. Both Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney were shocked by getting the win in both categories telling the press that the last time they wore suits was to a funeral.

The two said they will be in the studio next month to work on their follow up to “Brothers”. A lot of questions, though, were asked about a possible follow up to “Blakroc”, which was a collaboration with rappers such as Mos Def, RZA and Q-Tip.

“We aren’t planning on doing anymore of that”, lead singer Dan Auerbach said. “But we have half of an album done that we may give to a label. It has Jay Electronica, Wiz Khalifa and Currensy.”

That would be sick. I would love to hear that album and I really hope they decide to distribute it. If it is already done, it can be used as a nice little filler between “Brothers” and the album they will begin working on next month.
