Keeping fit can be hard in itself, yet when you are travelling it can be much harder, so here are seven easy ways to keep fit whilst on your travels:
- Take Your Exercise Classes With You
Today, you can download an app of popular classes such as Body Combat and Body Balance provides access to on-demand video versions of popular classes that are normally only found in health clubs and gyms. This way, you can work out in the comfort of your own hotel room without the need for costly temporary gym memberships.
- Swim
Swimming can be one of the most beneficial ways to stay in shape as it works almost every muscle in your body and supports your joints, meaning its good for you, even if you have an injury such as tendonitis which can be very limiting for those that like to be active.
- Jog
Jogging is one of the most popular forms of exercise for all people, no matter where they are, yet it’s especially good for travellers… as the only equipment you really need are some decent shoes and some good tunes. This is great for cities with rivers, as often, running by the side of the river at the end of a long day of meetings or seminars can be very relaxing and allows you to unwind for the night ahead. It’s also a great way to see the sights of the city, particularly first thing in the morning, when few others are around.
- Hire a Bike
In a similar vein to jogging, you could hire a bike that will allow you to explore further afield, as you can make much more ground on a bike than you can on your own two legs.
The challenge, however, is that if you’re planning on doing a lot of cycling, you could do with a bike fitting, which is where the bike you pick is tailored to your unique body – not something that tends to be done with rental bikes, however, if you are travelling domestically, then perhaps you could take your own bike with you
- Bring Some Equipment With You
Equipment can be heavy, but there are light items such as skipping ropes and TRX bands that can offer your body a decent all over workout without taking up much room or weighing your bags down.
- Join a Local Class
If you have a particular sport you love to practice, for instance, boxing or martial arts then joining a local class can be a great way to tap into this passion of yours whilst broadening your skills as it can be good to learn with different teachers and participants.
- Badminton
One of the challenges of travelling for work, at least, is that you’re often on your own or with colleagues that you don’t want to spend every minute of the day with. For this reason, taking a light badminton racket and shuttlecock can be a great way to engage with locals and exercise at the same time, for in this sport, they often have open sessions where you can attend and join a game.
