Sports You Can Try in 2020

If you’re someone who’s into sports and being active, it won’t be a surprise to know that you’ve already tried most of the traditional activities available. You’ve shot some hoops, you’ve scored a touchdown, you’ve gained an ace, and you’ve hit one right out of the park. But there’s more to the sporting world than these tried and tested sports, which is why it’s worth looking at sports you can try in 2020.

You’ve probably heard of these before, and you’ve even tried one or two in your time. But instead of a quick pickup game down at the park, now’s the chance for you to dive a little deeper in and actually learn the rules. If you’re ready, here are some options for you to consider.

Yes, you’ve all tried dodgeball before, but this was a long time ago in school or summer camp. It’s more than just a way for gym teachers to kill time when the weather won’t play nice, though, and if you’re looking to recreate the wild chaos of your youth, dodgeball is the way to do it.

Because of the simplicity of the rules, pretty much anybody can do it, and the nostalgic feelings associated with it means that you’ll be sure to find some buddies ready to take it up with you if you don’t want to go alone. Check out your local area for dodgeball clubs to get some fast-paced fun back in your life.

Not a lot of people consider shooting to be a sport, but if it’s good enough for the Olympics, it’s good enough for you. While it may not work out the legs and lungs like cardio-based activities, it is excellent for practicing precision and accuracy, all the while giving you some fresh air.

More reputable clubs will provide legitimate, high-quality casings. They may require you to supply your own, but you can find this at places such as Diamond K Brass. More casual clubs may prefer to use BBs or rubber ammunition for additional safety, especially if you’re new to shooting as a whole. But with all the accessories and equipment you can get, it’s not just a sport, but it’s a lifestyle choice.

Disc Golf

Disc golf is another sport that tests and improves your precision and accuracy and is an excellent option for a group of friends who never got the hang of regular golf. It’s better to play in the summer, where the local parks will be entirely snow-free, and you’ll have the added incentive to hit the target because of families relaxing along the course.

Disc golf is popular across 40 countries worldwide, so no matter where you live, you’re sure to find somewhere that can accommodate your needs. In addition to the precision practice, you’ll also get a pleasant stroll through the park on a warm summer’s day, so bring a barbecue to celebrate at the end of the course.

(Tag) Rugby

Popular in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and with a growing emergence in the US, Rugby is excellent for those who love to get physical. Still, if you’re worried about getting too stuck in, Tag Rugby is a decent enough alternative.

The Tag version removes much of the physicality, which some would argue is part of what makes rugby fun. Despite this, it still gives you an excellent workout and helps to improve your agility as you dip and dunk through your opponent, trying to get to the try-line.

Bike Polo

You’ve heard of regular polo, you’ve heard of water polo (which a disappointing lack of seahorses, but whatever), and now you’ve got Bike Polo, which works the same as the activities mentioned above, only this time you’re riding bikes instead of horses.

If you’re someone who likes to test their skills, this is the perfect sport for you. It requires balance, speed, control, and precision to hit the ball with the mallet and into the scoring area. To prevent any accidents, you’ll also need to remember your helmet and elbow pads for extra safety and make sure your brakes work correctly.

Why Not Try Something New?

Finding a new sport isn’t just about getting into shape and being the best around (although that’s always a fantastic feeling). It can also help you meet new people, expand your social circle, and get out more. This is an often underrated benefit of staying active, making it superb for both the body and the mind. Even if you’re not sure which of these sports might be the right one for you, don’t be afraid to take a leap of faith and try one of them out, you never know how much you might enjoy it.
