Peeple, The ‘Yelp For People’ App Is Coming And All You Dickheads Are Screwed

I’m sure someone has thought of making an app like Yelp but instead of reviewing stores and restaurants and things of that nature, you could rate/review an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend, a casual acquaintance or maybe someone you work with professionally.

I’m sure when they thought of it, they immediately dismissed the idea because it seems like something that could bring down human kind.

Not Julia Cordray and Nicole McCollough, though. These two entrepreneurs have come up with Peeple. An app that, essentially, will work like Yelp but for people.

Scary, right? Did you immediately start thinking of all the shitty things you have done and how they are going to inevitably bite you in your ass?

You’re not alone.

According to the Washington Post, Peeple (already at a $7.6M valuation) will work a lot like the aforementioned Yelp. Oh, and you have no choice whether or not you are on it.

When the app does launch, probably in late November, you will be able to assign reviews and one- to five-star ratings to everyone you know: your exes, your co-workers, the old guy who lives next door. You can’t opt out — once someone puts your name in the Peeple system, it’s there unless you violate the site’s terms of service. And you can’t delete bad or biased reviews — that would defeat the whole purpose.

On one hand, you may want to know if that neighbor that looks like a meth-head is actually a meth-head, right? But on the other hand, you don’t want some scorned lover putting you on blast for all to see.

Any negative reviews will be queued for a time of 48 hours for review and no profanity, sexism or mention of private health conditions can be disclosed, among other things.

You can read in more detail about the upcoming app at the Washington Post, but really, maybe it’s time to start calling people you have been mean to recently. You never know when they will show up at an academic decathlon and save your miserable ass.
